People with drinking problems come in all shapes and sizes, ages, men, women, LGBTIQ+, from all walks of life All need to know recovery from alcoholism is possible with the information and support AA provides


Approximately 5% of our population have a serious drinking problem. On average, they directly affect 4 other people - parents, siblings, children, other family members, friends. That is 20% of our population.

That means 25% of our community, either have a serious drinking problem or are being directly affected by someone else's drinking

CONCERNED ABOUT A FAMILY MEMBER'S OR FRIEND'S DRINKING?


If you are concerned about a loved one's drinking, you have the right to seek help to look after yourself, whether the drinker sees themselves as having a problem or not


The Al-Anon Family Groups

Offers

  • Support groups for the family and friends of problem drinkers, as well as specific groups for teens affected by someone else’s drinking.

  • Lliterature to help support you in learning more about the disease of alcoholism and how it affects family members and friends.

  • A program of recovery adapted from Alcoholics Anonymous based on the Twelve Step


For INDIGENOUS COMMUNITIES

Alcoholics Anonymous Australia — Remote Communities 

AA Australia has a National Remote Communities Committee, that has been reaching out to remote and isolated communities as well as Indigenous communities and individuals that may be in more populated areas.

It has produced a book called The Message Stick - which can be purchased online for $9.50 (click the image below) or obtained by contacting the National Remote Communities Coordinator by email
